A part of South Africa that calls us back again and again – Is a little arty town called Clarens. Clarens is a relatively quiet and laid-back town in the Free State near Lesotho. The town square is festooned and surrounded by Art Galleries, Coffee shops, Restaurants and Craft Outlets. It is a colourful little town littered with B&B’s and hiking trails. It is the countryside surrounding Clarens that I find most appealing. The Drive between Clarens and Fouriesburg reveals such beauty and charm. Ancient windswept koppies (small hill) stand proud and resolute with other hills carved by time, wind and storms. In my opinion the most precious time to visit this region is in Autumn. As a photographer and Artist, I am mesmerized by so much. – The yellow poplar trees, veldgrass draped in colours of cream and dust. The winding desolate gravel roads and sandstone koppies carved by the wind.
There are farms down these winding roads nestled on the side of the koppies. These roads hold the anticipation of mystery of where they lead to! Who has noticed these paths? Who has walked these paths? Where does this road lead? Who lives down this road? What stories and secrets does it hold?
